There is something for everyone each year during the festivals at Pickrell Park in Schertz, Texas. The biggest event is called SchertzFest. People from all walks of life come to enjoy the good old-fashioned fun. Whether you want to raise funds for cancer during the Wilenchik walk, take part in a fundraising golf tournament, celebrate our freedom, or enjoy the atmosphere, you can ALWAYS count on the city of Schertz. They know how to put on an amazing event. Each year the City hosts or co-hosts several events at the park. These include the Wilenchik Walk for Life, the 4th of July Jubilee, the awesome SchertzFest, ShertzQ and the Festival of Angels. All of these events are well planned, well attended and a blast for the whole family. No matter how old you are, there is something for you.
The city of Schertz promotes such wonderful history as they host spectacular community events. These events are family friendly and make everyone feel welcome and a part of something that matters. I have never seen such community participation as these events and the friendly atmosphere is contagious! Not only do they provide great entertainment but there is something fun for everyone to do.
When I visited Schertz during a weekend in September, I made sure my family went to SchertzFest. This year they had an awesome car show called the shown-shine. The festival also had a marketplace to buy local produce and crafts. As you looked across the park, you could see food trucks of every type of food imaginable for a mile. My favorite truck was the food from Bill Miller BBQ! It was the best BBQ food in Texas! The food from El Charro and Garcia’s was also top notch as far as Mexican food goes. They also had a fun BBQ cook-off hosted by the Cookers Association. What a fun event to include town members. We made sure we saved room for that after lunch. When I think about it, I am pretty sure we ate all day long. Texas really does know how to do BBQ!
The next day we decided to check out the town since we had some time to kill before the concert in the park. There isn’t a ton of shopping in Schertz, but we did happen to find some unique shops. We first hit the Forum Shopping Center and then the North Star Mall. As always we managed to find some things we had to have. We also browsed the Bussey’s flea market and found a few treasures. My boys wanted to run a little and explore so we made sure we went to the Schertz Community playscape. It was a lot of fun and then we also checked out the Crescent Bend Nature Park nearby. Overall, our two days in Schertz were fun, relaxing and full of good BBQ food. I’m pretty sure I need to go on a diet now and I feel like I need a really long nap
